Chirp Cosmetics

Hey, friends, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Sorry for my absence- I’ve had a bunch of stuff going on, and I’ve just been swamped. I’ve also had to quit my job, so once I work past my backlog of orders, I might post a bit less often since money. However, when even the Lipstick Tester comments on how long it’s been, it’s time to haul ass and post.

Also this is the 100th post on my blog, so good job me, I guess!

Packet o' samples!

Packet o’ samples!

So, Chirp Cosmetics. Relatively new company, but they’re one I really wanted to get the word out on for a few reasons. One, they’re having a sale on their lipsticks to make way for a new formula, so like half the review is going to be obsolete in a few weeks. The other is that I’ve actually had amazing customer service. I ordered a few samples and it shipped pretty quickly to me. About a week after I got the package, I received a refund for $1.50 in my paypal from them. The shipping was on par with what the label said, so I e-mailed to ask, and the owner said that she figured out that she could sell the samples for cheaper, so she refunded part of what I paid. Who even does that? Awesome.

Anyhow, I ordered two lipstick and two eyeshadow samples, and got two samples free. I really liked what she did with the lipstick samples. They were wrapped up in wax paper inside a sample baggie, which I found kept them contained and easy to use without digging my lip brush into the bag.

Silver + Gold is described as a silver shadow that shines gold in the light. I think that’s more or less accurate, although I’ve noticed it has a bit of a greeny tinge to it. I don’t think it’s a colour I have that close of a dupe of, so that’s cool. (When I wore this, the Lipstick Tester said “Oh, your eyes are sparkly. I like that.” So if you want your eyes to be sparkly, this is a good choice.)

Disco is described as a deep mauve/navy grey with multicoloured sparkles and a silver sheen. I didn’t really see the multicoloured sparkles that much, and over any kind of primer it just looks silver. Possibly a darker silver than any I own, but silver nonetheless. I’m not really complaining- I don’t really have many silver shadows, considering I like silver more than gold any day, but if I want it to stay put on my eyes, for all intensive purposes, it’s silver.

I didn’t swatch Chocolate over Pixie Epoxy since it’s matte. This is one of the free ones, as you can guess. It’s a slightly warmish chocolate brown. It’s a pretty good matte chocolate brown, though.

Senseless I did swatch over PE, because even though it’s described as a matte, in the listing product photo, it looks really sparkly. It’s not, though, it’s a matte black. I really like me some matte blacks, not gonna lie, and this is one of them. It swatches nicely over Milk, but I find over just primer it’s a bit patchy- more so if it’s on your face and you don’t want to just pack it on because you don’t want black fallout all over your cheek. I can safely say that it’s not in my Top 5 Matte Blacks Ever List, and it’s kind of sad that I have that.

Red Velvet was the one I was really, really excited to try because it was described as a deep wine. However, I found it almost impossible to build up to anything beyond the mid-tone berry you see here. It was just slick enough that any more just moved around a lot and was a damn nuisance. That said, at the current level, it stayed on pretty evenly and left a light stain so when it did come off, it wasn’t immediately apparent. I have a feeling the application issues might have been improved if I had the stick, as a lot of samples are. It’s a nice colour, but not quite what I was expecting.

Okay, Coraline I actually really liked. I ordered it because Coraline was one of my favourite books as a small child (which says something about my upbringing) and I really like puns, but it’s actually a lovely summery coral colour that I think might be nice for when I’m not being Goth As Hell. While I’d be a bit wary of it at the original price, if it’s still in stock when I get a new job, I might get a full-size for special occasions.

I did generally like the products I got, although Senseless didn’t make too much sense to me. I’d definitely make another order, though.

    • Haha, it was coming eventually!

And thank you for asking! I only recently realized that it was a list I had, but I decided I wouldn’t really bother making it into a post because it would be way short and I already did a post about black eyeshadows in general a year or so ago, plus the swatches would be the most boring thing.

      5. Number 5 on the list is Sobe Botanical’s Jet. It was one of my first indie shadows purchased, and it’s a pretty solid matte black.

      4. What’s a post about mattes without mentioning Blackbird’s Lucid? I really like Blackbird’s formula, and it’s a pretty decent black, although you really have to build it up to get black black.

      3. The only non-indie and pressed shadow on this list is the one from Wet N Wild’s Three’s a Party. Someone sent it to me because whoa red drugstore eyeshadow how rad is that, but the black ended up being the standout here.

      2. Audrey from Dark Heart Designs is a nice strong matte black. The urn-shaped containers are cute, but they don’t really jive with the rest of my storage.

      1. My favourite black is one from last year’s Notoriously Morbid Black Friday set, Famine. It’s the best in my collection. I’ve got some mattes from their Slay Me Collection in the mail, and I hope they’re as nice as that set.

So yeah, I have way too much black eyeshadow.

      • Thanks for the run down! The only one of those I have is Lucid, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’m definitely not anywhere as into matte blacks as you are, but I do like NM’s Bloody Awful Poet. I didn’t realize she’d had another black!
