6 Products I’m Just Not Jazzed About

Hey, friendos! Today, I’m going to post about products that just, like, don’t do it for me. A few notes, first off- this is not all makeup, because I got rid of most of the makeup that I really didn’t like before I moved and I didn’t take any photos of it. However, they are all products I gave the old college try that just, like, aren’t working out for me. I’ll also put the standard “this is just my opinion” disclaimer up here- a lot of the things that aren’t working are just not working for me, I’m sure. While I have tried products that are just objectively bad, generally, I can realize that and throw them straight out. These guys, I’ve been really really trying to make work for me, and they don’t.

One Week With: the Sleek Acid Palette

Hey, guys! I’ve decided to start up a new semi-regular series. I’ve found I have a decent number of palettes that I feel don’t get as much love from me as they used to, or I just open them to use that one shade that I super duper love. So, with this challenge (is it a challenge? I feel like it’s a challenge) for a week straight, the only eye makeup I’ll do will be with that palette. I don’t do makeup every day, but it’s definitely enough to get a feel for older palettes and either fall back in love or decide to destash them, and I also enjoy revisiting older things to see if I still really like them or if I got them and thought “wow, bright colours, I love that shit!” without really knowing what made eyeshadow good.

A Wee Bit Morbid- Mystic Mattes and Slumber Salve

My other little Christmas gift to myself was from Notoriously Morbid. I had been really really wanting the 13 Black Rainbows Mystic Matte, since I did love the shadow until I completely used it up (which is an achievement on my own, given how wee my eyelids are and how many black eyeshadows with glitter in I own, despite the fact that most black eyeshadows with glitter in are functionally the same.) So when they had their free shipping sale, I made a small order.

Bobbie’s First Illamasqua

Surprise, bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.

In all seriousness, hey, it’s me, I’m not dead or anything! Sorry for the break- I had a long period of not ordering anything because I have enough makeup, really, and then I was all “aw, man, would people even want to see me post about stuff I already own, sheesh, dude” but then someone on Tumblr recognized me and reminded me this blog still exists, so I’m gonna give it a go again. Fair warning, though, I plan to focus less on  “here’s this new thing I bought” and more “here are fun things to do with the things I already own!” because, you know, stuff.

Anyway, that said, check out this new stuff I bought! Continue reading

Limnit Lipsticks!

So, this is one I’ve been sitting on for a while. You can tell because I still have a decent amount of hair. The lipsticks were actually purchased at the beginning of May, when Limnit was having a sale on their green lipsticks. I had them shipped to the new address, so unfortunately I can’t speak to how promptly they arrived, since they were here before I was.

A short Notoriously Morbid post, along with some housekeeping notes!

I’ll put the boring stuff at the beginning before the cut, so it’s harder to miss.

First off, I’ve moved! I was kind of busy with getting everything I own packed up and sent off, and when I wasn’t doing that, I was generally seeing people in town before I left, but I’m done moving now. This is the last post that was photographed in the old apartment. So, what does this mean for you? Well, first off, I’m in a lot hotter of a climate now. Since I got here, it’s been steadily above 30 degrees, which I am whiny about. I’ll try to keep that in the back of my mind when reviewing products, because the temperature can affect a lot of products. (For example, my Fyrinnae Lip Lustres were pretty hard to the point of being unusable. Now, they’re almost liquid.)

So, now that I moved, I’ll be up to getting more packages again and be better at doing more than one review a month, right? Ehhhhh, about that. There are rumours- still nothing’s locked down as far as I can tell, but I’m planning for it- about a Canada Post strike. This means no indie orders, as well as a few other issues for me, like all of my shoes that are not my big black boots being stuck in the mail. (Did I mention it’s over 30 degrees?) I’ve got a few parcels that were sent to the new apartment, so after that, we’ll see. And while all my makeup isn’t here, I’ve been thinking of doing some comparison swatch posts of my eyeshadows, so I’ll see about that.

Now, for the fun part!

Eccentric Cosmetics 2- Eccentric Boogaloo

Yes, I know, I’ve been taking ages to post. Actual worst. On the bright side for me, I’ll be moving in a month or so, and once all that’s done I’ll look into a more regular posting schedule. Unfortunately, until then, I’m trying to save dollars and also not ordering a lot of things in case they arrive at my apartment after I leave, so I’ll be posting new hauls less often. I’m going to try posting with the things I already have, though. (Also, I’m sitting on a few orders right now, so I’ve got a few posts left in me.)

Life’s Entropy Lip Theories, Volume 2: Part 1

One of my Black Friday orders (that’s how long I was sitting on this review) was a sample set of the newer Life’s Entropy Lip Theories. They arrived, and I promptly said “dang, how am I going to fit all these into a post?” There’s twenty of them, so when you factor in that I usually try to full-day wear any lip products and I can’t wear half of these to work, that’d be a month or so between posts. And it’s not like I’ve never done that before or anything, but I’m trying to avoid it, so here’s part 1.

These samples had been sitting around my house for about a month and a half before I got around to swatching them, plus the time that they got caught in Canada Post. I shook them up a bit, but none of them really seemed to be separating that much.

My Pretty Zombie Blushes And Junk

Okay, so disclaimer, I actually don’t know how to use blush. Like, at all. I’m awful. I go like “haha I don’t use blush because I’m too goth!” but really I just mess it up every time. It’s partially because I’m kinda pasty, partially because of no practice, and partially because until relatively recently I was using a repurposed eyeshadow brush to apply it. But I was like “ehhh time to learn I guess if I’m gonna be a legit makeup blogger” so here I am with a bunch of MPZ samples to figure out what I like.

February (and final?) MBA Perfect Fix Beauty Bag

Whoof. I’ve been working on a big post that needs a bunch of time, so something more is coming. Before I get started on this month’s unboxing, I’d like to mention that Jaiden from the comments pointed out that maquillage_savant on Instagram put up a bunch of photos that indicate that My Beauty Addiction is quite possibly repackaging on shadows they claim are their own creations. On repackaging, personally, I’m cool with it (have you seen what TKB charges to ship to Canada, holy crap) as long as you’re open about it. MBA has a bunch of shadows that they claim are the basic micas, and others with nothing on them, which leads you to believe that the others are their own blends. I knew a lot of the stuff on there was private label, but I thought I’d mention it in case that’s your sticking point.
